Did you know that coffee also has a 100-point scoring system like the wine industry? The folks at Coffee Review introduced the first-ever 100-point, wine-style coffee reviews to the specialty coffee industry in 1997. Over the past 20 years, Coffee Review has become of one of the most respected, influential, and widely read coffee publications in the world.
Recently, our Fairtrade Certified Organic Single Origin Ethiopian Yirgacheffe scored 93-points, here are the details of the review:
Blind Assessment: High-toned, crisply sweet-tart. Apricot, cocoa nib, Meyer lemon zest, cedar, lilac in aroma and cup. Sweetly tart structure with juicy, vibrant acidity; full, satiny mouthfeel. The finish centers around notes of apricot and cocoa with lilac undertones.
Notes: Southern Ethiopia coffees like this one are produced from traditional Ethiopian varieties of Arabica long grown in the region. It was processed by the wet or washed method (fruit skin and pulp are removed before drying). Organic and fair trade certified.
The Bottom Line : A classic washed process Yirgacheffe cup: juicy and bright with citrus and stonefruit notes throughout and a cocoa throughline.
